Vote No on a NYS Constitutional Convention (Prop 1)

Vote No on a Constitutional Convention (Prop 1)

On Tuesday, voters across New York will be going to the polls to vote on whether New York should hold a Constitutional Convention. The locals that make up Long Island Teachers, along with NYSUT, have spent the better part of the the last year informing our members about the dangers of holding a convention. Some of these dangers include the loss of a pension for both active and retired members, the loss of our collective bargaining rights, and the loss of a guaranteed free, public education for all children. We believe that these risks are to great and have instructed all of  our members to Vote No on Proposition 1 this Tuesday. Polls will be open from 6 AM until 9 PM, please remember to flip your ballot and Vote No.

Gutting Guarantees

Did you know that the New York Constitution guarantees everyone in the state the right to a free public education? Or that some of our most environmentally sensitive areas like the Adirondacks and the Catskills are safeguarded by the state constitution’s “forever wild” protections? So many of the things that value most and take for granted about living in this great state are guaranteed by the state constitution, but a “Politicians’ Convention” could put them all at risk.
